MergingMetals aims to create an ethical and sustainable future by raising awareness of material sourcing issues and practices. One can create enchanted handmade wearables without conforming. We are a proud member of Ethical Fashion Source Network.
We marry organic objects with metals through conductivity and electricity. Electroforming is an intricate and specialized process that synthesizes a metal object by controlling the electrodeposition of metal passing through an electrolytic solution onto a metalized form. Organic materials are now encapsulated in 100% pure copper. Sounds scientific doesn’t it? Well it is! The final step involves hand patina and a sealant. The now metallic items can be oxidized to different hues of blue, green, honey, warm brown, gunmetal, and black. It takes several days to complete just one item, a lot of love has gone into each and every wearable we create.
We transform found and abandoned items into wearable, one-of-a-kind creations. MergingMetals creates unique and unconventional wearables from ethically and sustainably sourced materials, each lovingly handcrafted and made with purpose.
Most of the feathers, wasps nests, and bones we use come from my mothers hobby farm in Northern Wisconsin. Other organic materials come from the places in which we have lived or live in Wisconsin, Colorado, and currently Western North Carolina.
*DO NO HARM is more than a saying, it’s what we practice. All bones, feathers, and insects we use in our designs are foraged from found or naturally deceased animals and insects. 100% cruelty-free.
We turn gemstones and minerals into upcycled necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings and hair accessories. We solder glass pendants encasing fascinating flora and fauna. Metals and recycled leather have been given new life; transforming into earrings, bracelets and chokers.
A few of our tree bark and branch necklaces were recently published in the September 2017 issue of Belle Armoire Jewelry magazine. Electroforming gone nation wide!
